Sur ce disque 10 compositions originales de Chris LEIGH qui vont du honky tonk rock et même rockabilly aux ballades country. Il y a vraiment une ambiance musicale sur ce CD et Chris LEIGH est un authentique poête de bar et la mélancolie de son cœur brisé inspire plein de ses titres. MAIBELL and the MISFIRES   CD “Destiny”  2013 sur El Toro records. C’est le 2ème album de ce groupe finlandais et les 12 titres de l’album sont composés par le guitariste K Kunnas (les morceaux ont la particularité d’être souvent des rock syncopés). Superbe album sur ce grand label espagnol avec une belle guitare (reverb et twangy) et le vocal sensuel de Miss MAIBELL. Mes préférés : « Only you », « Killing Love », « Some Words » , « Thinking of you » , le slow rock « Losing You » et le superbe « Stay By My Side ».

ROCK MEN ROCK volume 2 : 16 Japanese Rockabillies (label japonais Thousand records). C’est le début d’une série de 5 CD qu’on écoutera dans les mois qui viennent). Superbe compilation japonaise : 8 groupes et tout un éventail de ce qui se fait là-bas au pays du soleil levant. A noter : le seul pianiste de boogie/rock japonais  MABO and the 88 avec 2 titres superbes : « Dig that Boogie » et « Right Behind you Baby » , le groupe  50 MEGATONS avec une belle reprise du classique de Gene Maltais « Raging Sea », un trio de hillbilly ( originaire de Osaka) YUICHI & the HILLTONE BOYS avec la superbe reprise du classique « Steel Guitar Rag », enfin le groupe BIG CHIEF (mon contact là-bas et qui m’a fourni cette série de CDs ) avec « Tennessee Border »….Mention spéciale à la belle pochette du CD qui est un clin d’œil à la série « Decca Rockabilly » sortie au milieu des années 70.

Note: the only one boogie Japanese pianist MABO and the 88 with two beautiful songs: "Dig that Boogie" and "Right Behind you Baby," the group 50 MEGATONS with a beautiful cover of the classic of Gene Maltais "Raging Sea",  a trio of hillbilly (from Osaka) YUICHI & the HILLTONE BOYS with superb cover of the classic "Steel Guitar Rag", and finally the BIG CHIEF group (my contact there and gave me this set of CDs) with " Tennessee Border ".... Special mention to the beautiful CD cover which is a nod to the serie "Decca Rockabilly " released in the mid-70’s.

VOODOO SWING : CD « Keep on Rollin’ » sur le label Electric Lotus ( 2011).C’est le 6ème album de ce trio originaire de l’Arizona et 1er disque du groupe sur ce label américain basé à Phoenix. 11 titres tous composés par le trio qui oscillent entre rock/blues shouté et psychobilly (à noter le super jeu de guitare de Paul « Shorty » Kreutz). Mes préférés : le superbe instro-boogie « Hittin’ On All Eight », « Hillbilly Rock’n’Roll » , « 18 Wheels » ( titre speedé) et « Ice Cold Connie ».

VOODOO SWING:. CD "Keep on Rollin” on the Electric Lotus label (2011). This is the sixth album by the trio who from Arizona and the first disc of the group on this American label based in Phoenix. 11 songs all composed by the trio between rock / blues Shoute and psychobilly (note the great guitar playing by Paul "Shorty" Kreutz). My favorite: the great instro-boogie "Hittin 'On All Eight", "Hillbilly Rock'n'Roll", “18 Wheels” (speed title) and "Ice Cold Connie."

Ce 7ème album correspond aux 20 ans de carrière de ce groupe ; c’est aussi un de leurs albums les plus aboutis qui oscille entre rock, blues, country avec l’arrivée d’autres instruments comme le piano , saxophone, steel guitare , banjo , violon…et aussi grâce à la collaboration du multi instrumentiste Shea Marshall, de Tony Martinez et du crooner PAT ROBERTS (& the Honeymakers), un groupe du label Electric Lotus qu’on écoutera dans les mois à venir.. BEST OF RIPSAW Records volume 2 (2012) sur le label allemand Part records. Ripsaw est un label mythique des années  80. Part Records a entrepris de rééditer les artistes  de Ripsaw et c’est une excellente idée qui nous permet d’écouter et de découvrir même des titres et des musiciens quelques fois difficiles à se procurer ou un peu tombés dans l’oubli….Sur ce Cd compilation 20 titres excellents avec notamment Billy Hancock , Tex Rubinowitz , Martha Hull et Marty Brom.

WILLY WRAINWRIGHT  CD « HERE and NOW » (1999) sur le label suisse Cowboy Kurt records. Ce violoniste virtuose n’est autre que le mari de Jennifer Weatherly qu’il accompagne sur scène ou sur disque. Sur cet album 10 titres traditionnels magnifiquement interprétés avec une sonorité de violon exceptionnelle. Mes préférés : « Blue Train », « Railroad Working », « Ashokun Farewell » et « I been to Georgia on A Fast Train ».

WILLY Wrainwright CD "HERE and NOW" (1999) on the Swiss label Cowboy Kurt records. The violinist is none other than the husband of Jennifer Weatherly who he backs on stage or disc. SANDY LEE and the WANTONS : CD démo 8 titres (hors commerce) :”Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly”. Sandy Lee est très connue en Allemagne pour son rôle d’actrice dans de nombreuses séries télévisées. Elle a rejoint le groupe de surf/rock  « The Wantons » pour une rencontre explosive et sensuelle. Sa voix n’est pas sans rappeler  un peu celle de la grande Wanda Jackson. Au menu charme et présence scénique pour un mélange de classiques du rock/rockabilly/blues rapeux. Mes titres préférés : « Sandy Lee and the Wantons Tonight » , Shake A Leg » , « Shakin’ All Over » et le superbe “Midnight Blues”.

WHEELS FARGO and the NIGHTINGALE : groupe Italien déjà diffusé dans mon émission et qui a déjà mis le feu au 9éme festival d’Attignat avec leur musique hillbilly-bluegrass.. !!

RIP MASTERS : découvert dans les années 80 alors qu’il était le pianiste attitré du label Rollin’ Rock, Rip a accompagné les grands noms du label comme Ray Campi, Mac Curtis, Jacky Lee Cochran….lors de ces fameuses sessions au son tellement reconnaissable. Ensuite Rip Masters  a enregistré des CD superbes dont notamment le « Bare Knuckle Piano » son dernier album avec des titres de grande qualité.

Le groupe anglais WESTERN ELECTRIC avec 2 CD :  album « the Best of Western Electric » composé de 12 titres enregistrés entre 2004 et 2007 , dont une majorité écrits par Steve Davey (guitare). L’ambiance de ce CD est très hillbilly/rock/honky tonk. Mes préférés : « Mailman Boogie » , « Hollister Ball » , « Won’t Be your Dog » , « Rockin’ Too Much » , “Big Babe » , “Doin’my Time” et “Deep River”

WESTERN ELECTRIC : mini CD 5 titres ( label studio 56 enregistré en 2009). Le son est là aussi trés country/honky-tonk et très inspiré par Johnny Cash avec 2 excellentes reprises de « Big River » et « Get Rhythm ».

Terry EARL TAYLOR: confrère DJ concurrent et néanmoins  ami  qui non content d’animer en Angleterre une émission de rock  a aussi joué et chanté depuis 1996 dans différentes formations de rock et country ( comme « the Chicago Emperors » , puis « Mad Dog » et enfin « the Hillbilly Pals » en 2006.  CD compilation auto-produit en 2011 : mes titres préférés  « Look What you Done » , »Can’t Trust You » , « November » et « C’est ça qu’est bon » avec le « frenchman » Hervé Loison connu sous le nom de scène de Jake CALYPSO.( dont on écoutera le CD dans quelques mois).

Mike SCHIKORA : CD “HORSES and GUITARS” ( 2013 sur Front Range records). Le son est trés country  quelques fois un peu trop “pop”, et la voix de Mike Schikora est adaptée aux belles ballades …A noter un superbe honky-tonk/blues : »Sooner than Later » et quelques ballades country.
